IT’S A COMPLETE WHYTE WASH AT SHATIN!

Word is that during his two meeting suspension, Dougie Whyte didn’t spend his time in Phuket guzzling Singha beer, climbing coconuts trees and screaming, “Niiiiickiiiii!”

No, we hear from some of the tribal leaders of the mysterious Dumluk tribe that the champion jockey “went native” and lived, ate and hunted with the tribe in order to give him greater agility and participated in the Dumluk’s famous “fire in the belly” ceremony.

And it looked to have worked when, at Shatin, Whyte returned wearing war paint on his face and a feather sticking outta a rather strange part of his anatomy.

With these sartorial enhancements being against the rules of racing, Whyte returned after a quick shower and won the first two races of the day- on first-starter Kynam for John Moore and then taking out the next aboard Sunshine Boy- a race where the fine motor skills of some jockeys brought to mind Nash Rawiller’s brain freeze ride on More Joyous in Sydney yesterday.

A quick one: It’s been confirmed that More Joyous will be the first mare to be serviced by Frankel.

Perhaps The Gnasher was aware of this and was just looking the future of his galloper’s offspring.

Back at Shatin, Whyte was beaten on odds on favorite Brave Brother which raced more like a very green and wayward Mr Softee which was drawn the wrong side of the track. Worse, he copped another two day suspension for the ride.

The race was eventually taken out by the improving apprentice Alvin Ng- referred to as Zac Purton by race-caller Brett “Noddy” Davies- who won on 20 to 1 pop Joy Together, another training triumph for Dennis Yip. What a season, Yippie is having who is in it to win it for the Trainers Premiership.

Race 4 was the first of the all-weather races and which had a grey cloud hovering above us as we can never win on these very competitive races.

So we just followed Douglas Whyte- and everything he learnt with the Dumluks came through again when he rode a very patient race after being drawn barrier 11 to win aboard the impressive Hypersonic.

After taking a break and letting Olivier Doleuze win race 4, you-know-who was back when the Size-Whyte combination took out race 6 with All Bountiful, a horse that has suddenly gone through an almost miraculous improvement.

Tye Angland and Caspar Fownes combined successfully again to take out race 7 and wipe out all triple trio and most six up players.

A TT jackpot of over $17m is carried forward to the meeting on the 14th and which is the best thing to come outta that all-weather race.

It’s also something which must have made Alessandro, owner of popular Italian restaurant Da Domenico, a very happy bambino. Mama Mia Sophia Loren, those garlic clams with spaghetti served last night were magnifico!

The Chairman’s Trophy was taken out by Packing Whiz, perfectly ridden by Brett Prebble, and having his first run for Caspar Fownes- a great training effort. And wait: We hear the horse is still not 100 percent fit. It was a devastating win with Dan Excel coming second.

John Size again showed confidence in the local riders when he used apparentice Dickie Lui on Bundle Of Love which won race 9 at its 15th start of the season before the Size-Whyte double act took out race 10 with Little Men.

This brought up four wins for the trainer and five winners for this amazing jockey and a score of 82 points in the Jockeys Challenge.

What added to his satisfaction of the fifth win was Whyte going past the winning post and giving a subtle five finger salute for the cameras- and his knockers.

In the last race, Whyte could have created Jockey Challenge points history by running a place on owner David Boehm’s Secret Sham.

He didn’t run a placing. He won the race, gave the horse a wunderbar ride and the rest really was and is history. And that’s no sham.

After today’s Whyte out, Douglas Whyte has zoomed nine winners ahead of Zac Purton in the Jockeys Premiership- but faces another two day suspension for careless riding.

Still, has The Fat Lady sung? If she hasn’t already, she sure is clearing her throat as it looks as if former arch enemy Brett Prebble and, perhaps, Tye Angland will benefit most from his enforced holiday and with the John Size army waiting for their rider to lead the charge again.
