Which came first, the chicken or the egg? We have no idea, but it’s sad to see two great champs- Dougie Whyte and Zac Purton- engage in a war of words and which has made headlines today in the Sydney Daily Herald with the latter coming out with guns blazing and ending with the combative words, “Game on”. It certainly has Oz talking.

Frankly, it’s not good for anyone and for those who know both of these great jockeys, it’s an ugly argy bargy we don’t wish to see in print.

But, we can only guess a story is a story and journos know which buttons to push, words are then said in the heat of the moment and these words stick.

And so it is with Purton and Whyte who have made this a memorable season with their competitive nature to the sport of racing.

Who said what first and who “chirped” and who tweeted and what was said by who first is something we don’t wanna know nor care to know.

What we are more interested in is that we hear a Jockeys Meeting was held yesterday where, amongst other things, riders were asked who has Facebook accounts, who is on Twitter and some kinda riot act was read out.

If correct, this pisses us off as there is an arrogant headmaster-pupil ring to it that treats adults like dunces when, as we all know, every time these great athletes go out, they risk life and limb for the sake of this sport.

Officials of racing clubs who forget this when a little power goes to their heads should be constantly reminded of this- with a club.

Who’s on Facebook? Who opened your Twitter account? Huh?

What about what has been quoted in page 52 of the Sydney Daily Herald?

Excuse me, bud, but you have your priorities all wrong and just making corporate noises is pure flatulence.

We are huge supporters of the HKJC and everything it does beyond racing and are currently listening to Perth’s Racing Radio Big Breakfast Show and where they are singing the praises of Dougie Whyte, Zac Purton, racing in Hong Kong and how much we do to promote it- yes, on twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

Let’s not alienate those who keep racing in Hong Kong being constantly seen as the best in the world through all the mediums available to us today.

All of us outside the Club are the HKJC’s street marketing team. And very often, far better and far more influential than those within the Club with the word “marketing” in their titles.

But try and play games with us and you will quickly understand that the pen is mightier than the sword and that we don’t suffer fools gladly.

Nor are we prepared to turn the other cheek.

Jesus did that and how far did it get him?

Now go do something useful with your time and sort out this war of words between two of the biggest drawcards in Hong Kong racing.
